These are just lovely items to add to a period Victoran / Edwardian interior - they would look good on either end of a mantlepiece on a parlour. They are original lamps dating to the late 19th century / early 20th century.
Dimensions: The overall height is from base to top of the chimney is 13 inches. The height from the foot to top of cranberry font is is 5 1/4 inches. Diameter of the foot is 3 1/2 inches.
They are of a small size - and are miniature or hand-held lamps. They are in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks.
They are not marked with a maker's name - but the use of the two colours of glass and the quality of them suggests that they might have been made by Fenton Glass.
I love the two colours of glass used - the main body section or font is made of a cranberry glass which is paler towards the bottom and becomes more of a ruby shade towards the top. It sits on an opaline circular foot with a stepped decorative border all around the bottom. The cranberry glass has raised little flower heads all around and a dimpled abstract pattern on the band at the bottom where it meets the foot section. The cranberry font and white foot are made from one single piece of glass and are not two sections joined together.
There is a little brass gallery which also has nice decoration on it, as photographed. There is a little wheel with a floral pattern on it - which you used to raise and lower the wick. It comes complete with original clear glass funnels or chimneys. There is a wick inside, but it does not go up and down easily - so perhaps these might be more decorative items. It might need a slightly thinner wick to allow it to roll up easier.
They are certainly a pretty pair - and nice to find as a matched pair. I am pricing them at £90 for each one. This smaller size is harder to find than the larger ones - so this is a fair price. The stepped details on the foot is also quite unusual.
