his is a lovely antique silver large oval locket. It dates to the late 19th century and is decorated all over with an engraved floral design - as photographed.
One side has a cartouche - and this has a tiny (and hardly visible) inscription : JDS / to / MFM. This could easily be burnished off - but it is part of the history of the piece.
Both sides are richly engraved - and the decoration on both sides is very different.
It is a good quality item and in excellent "as new" condition.
It is sold all nice and clean with a fine shine to the silver - it certainly gleams. It is free from any disfiguring dents.
The locket does not have a hallmark (Victorians did not always hallmark smaller pieces of silver) but it is definitely 925 silver in content.
The bale is large and allows you to easily put chains through the aperture. It has a very nice thick silver linked chain - and of a longer length. It will fit over your head if you have trouble with clasps on your jewellery. The chain is probably worth over £25 on its own!
You can place photographs of your loved ones inside - as they would have done in Victorian days.
The main locket section measures: 4 cm in height - and with a width of 3.2 cm. The length including the bale (or hanging ring) is 5 cm.
The chain measures 24 inches in total length. It has a ring catch closure.
UK Postage will be Royal Mail Recorded Delivery - this will cost £4.95 and this will be applied to your order at the checkout.
