This is an original little Art Deco 1930s Brooch made as a souvenir for the New York's Worlds Fair in 1939. The fair was held at Flushing Meadows., Queens, NY. It was the second-most expensive American world's fair of all time, behind the St. Louis Louisiana Purchase Exposition of 1904.
It is a rare survivor and I cannot find another like it.
It has a tiny ceramic plaque which has a blue background and raised white decorations. The plaque is covered with a small glass dome to keep it safe. The text dates it to 1939 and it features notable buildings at the fair. My brooch shows the Trylon and Perisphere.
It is set in a geometric Art Deco Sterling Silver setting. The silver surround is beautifully detailed with lots of raised decorations and engraving. There is a safety c-scroll clasp on the back. It is marked: STERLING.
It is a very fine and harder-to-find fair souvenir - most of these brooches or pins were made from a base metal - this one is silver. This is reflected in the price.
It is 4 cm in length - with a height of 3 cm.
In perfect condition with no damages.
It will be sent to you in the UK with Royal Mail Recorded Post - this will be applied to your order at the checkout.
