These vintage barware decanters are now very collectable novelty items, especially in such lovely condition.
This one is in the shape of a wee banjo. It is made of thick shiny chrome metal, and hard black plastic (on the back of the banjo body) and the bottle section is contained within the arm and main body - this part is made of clear glass.
You remove the chrome head section of the banjo (which just lifts off and is a nice tight fit) and inside is the pourer and filling section.
My decanter is beautifully made and full of detail as you can see in all my photographs. It is a quality item.
Many of these musical banjo decanters have condition problems - but mine is in very good condition commensurate with age and use. It dates to the late 1950s and was made in Japan, as marked on the base.
My price is a fair one given how well it has been looked after for about 65 years.
Not only does it look quite the part - but it is also musical and has a wind-up key on the base which you use to play the musical mechanism inside the banjo. The music plays: How Dry I Am - when it is picked up - and when placed back down the music stops playing. Daft and Great fun!
It is 13 inches long. The banjo body is 6 inches in diameter and the depth is 2 1/2 inches.
