This is a very rare item - and indeed I have never seen one of these before dating to the end of the 19th century.
It would have sat on a pine dresser in a countryside kitchen - and the farmer's wife might have popped some extra eggs in there to keep them safe.
It would make a fantastic pair with my companion piece - a bisque chicken on a nest - also in my Etsy store.
This is a quality item - and is excellent condition with no chips or cracks etc.
The interior is nice and clean - and there are no restorations.
The modelling of the figure is certainly very fine - the feathers are super!
Love the emerald green colour is Miss Duck's head and her wee pale yellow beak. Cute wee grey tail feathers appear at the back. The basket base or nest is a straw yellow colour and to contrast the duck - it has a little sheen to the yellow colour.
Sweet - two wee white eggs under the duck's chest at the front of her nest.
Dimensions: width is about 8 1/2 inches. Depth is about 6 3/4 inches. Height from base to top of duck's head.
The nest measures: 7 3/4 x 6 3/4 x 2 1/4 inches.
Weight unpacked is 1.2 kg.
A very fair price for this most attractive and indeed highly decorative example. A very fair price for this - you don't find them every day of the week... and quite a rarity piece now.
