This is a fabulous vintage case or small overnight case, It is rare to find one of these in the UK - as it was retailed by Stuttafords (known as the South African "Harrods").
The bag is not leather - but made of a good quality thick matt vinyl - so can also be used by vegan customers.
It dates to the early 1970s and was probably sold at the flagship store in Cape Town.
I love the cube shape of this lovely bag and the little brass dumb details on the handle section and the chrome decorative trims, all as photographed.
It is in excellent- dare I say it almost pristine condition, as you won't be disappointed with it. It has no marks or scuffs - and the red lining is exceptionally clean with a clean plastic cover in the base to keep it nice and clean - and little ruffled pockets all around so that you can store vanity items in them. There is also a little oblong mirror to put into one of the pockets - this has never been used and is still wrapped in its original tissue paper.
It has lots of shiny chrome trims to stop bumping to the corners etc - a mark of a quality case.
There are no scuffs to the base on the outside - and there are four chrome stoppers to raise the base of the ground. The handle is a thick black one where you hold it - and it consists of wrapped thinner straps which sweep around the metal dumbells as a decorative feature.
There is a retail label on the inside which says: Stuttafords
A fabulous example. It is a very rare survivor from this time - I can't find any other examples of such lovely vintage South African vanity cases from this top retailer - this is reflected in my asking price.
Dimensions: the width is 9 1/2 inches. The depth is 6 1/2 inches and the height is 7 inches (not including the handle - with the handle it is 10 3/4 inches). It is 1.1 kg unpacked
A great case - top-quality maker and a fine back colour which will co-ordinate with most outfits etc.
The perfect box for crafters or make-up artists etc. - or indeed just for travelling to your favourite vintage fairs and weekend celebrations.
I don't have another - newly listed July 2023 - so don't hang about if you fancy it.. am actually quite tempted to keep it myself.. difficult decisions.
HISTORY: Stuttaford's was a chain of upscale department stores in South Africa. It operated for 159 years from 1858 through 2017. It was nicknamed the "Harrod's of South Africa". At closing, it had seven stores in South Africa, two in Botswana, and one in Namibia. It continues to operate in Namibia only.
The asking price here is fair for the colour, condition and quality brand. It is a sturdy item - and as such as a bit of weight to it. I will have to send it to you with Royal Mail Recorded Delivery to keep it all safe in transit. This will cost £6.95 and applied to your order at the checkout.
