This is an EXTREMELY RARE little original Victorian guide book - which was published in 1899.
I cannot find another copy - so it is certainly a special item for the more specialist collector.
It is an attractive 19th-century guide book to the seaside town of Dunbar in Scotland.
It is entitled Picturesque Dunbar (Illustrated). New Popular Guide to the Town & District. Plans of the Town and Golf Course.
It was sixpence when first published - and was published by W & AK Johnston Engravers and Geographers to the Quen, Edinburgh and London.
The cover is a stiff grey card. There is about 80 pages and a few extras with local adverts at the back.
Given the date inside on an advert to 1899 - it is interesting to see images of some of the Dunbar townsfolk preparing for the Boer war. Including the Yeomanry Cavalry and Castle Park Big Gun Drill and Big Gun Practice. There are images of Golfers in the Links - including a lady golfer in full long black Victorian dress. There is a fold-out map of the Golf Course. There is also another fold-out map of Dunbar, Belhaven and West Barns.
Lots of local adverts from the period.
It is in good condition - all nice and clean. No inscriptions, tears etc - all pages intact - and both maps in good condition with no damages.
A very fine little guide book. Given its age and rarity - listed at a very fair price.
Dimensions: 15.5 x 12 x 1 cm.
