This is a lovely vintage bone china lidded sugar bowl and larger sized milk jug - dating to 1971.
Both bowl and jug are in excellent vintage condition with no damages.
The design is called Cornpoppy and it was designed by Susie Cooper for Wedgwood.
Though the Susie Cooper Pottery had continued as a successful enterprise since the 1930s, in 1966 it merged with Wedgwood. However, the pottery remained a largely autonomous unit and continued to produce Susie Cooper designs.
This 'Cornpoppy' pattern reflects the Art Nouveau revival of the 1960s and early 1970s (influenced by artists like Mucha) with the use of sinuous line wrapping around the front of the form.
The 'Cornpoppy' range was (and indeed continues to be) popular in Britain, and featured a large red poppy with sweeping green bud tendrils.
The milk jug has a height of 3 inches and a diameter of 3 inches. The lidded sugar bowl is 3 1/2 inches in height.
A design classic even!
I have a number of other pieces in my Iconic Edinburgh online store featuring this attractive pattern - of course, good postal discounts would apply.
