These are lovely vintage Scandinavian studio pottery cups and saucers.
Jens Harald Quistgaard (1919 – 2008) was a Danish sculptor and designer, known for his work with “Dansk Designs” where he was their chief designer from 1954 -1984.
Quistgaard first produced designs stoneware designs for the Danish Ceramics factory Kronjyden Nissen which had started up in 1937. One of his most celebrated early ceramic designs is “Flamestone”, which was released under the Dansk label and produced by ESLAU Denmark in the 1950s.
This stylish Flamestone design features a highly matte chocolate brown exterior, contrasting with a smooth white gloss glaze for the interior. It has ribbed decoration around the exterior and around the rim of the saucer.
Each piece is marked to the base: IHQ Dansk / Danmark
The cup measures 3 1/2 inches in height - the diameter of the rim is 2 1/4 inches
The saucer has a diameter of just over 5 inches
