This is a great collectable item and of interest to collector's of novelty vintage lamps or early plastic items.
It is a little battery operated nursery lamp - taking the form of an old oil lamp or Aladdin Lamp. It is Model No. 1667. It must date to the 1940s as it is noted on the box that it is Empire Made.
It is made of a hard Bandalasta type of swirled plastic. It has black, dark blue and white coloured swirls. The lamp has a little bulb where the spout would be and this has a little plastic cap that would sit over the bulb to diffuse the light. I have not tested it - but think that it would work with two modern AA batteries place inside. I think that it has some sort of pressure switch - so that the lamp operates "as if by magic" and switches on when you lift it up, and then turns back off when placed down on a hard surface.
The battery would be inserted in the base section. It looks like it has never been used. It comes with its original retail box and instructions manual, as photographed.
It is certainly a nice little collectable lamp or nursery toy. In excellent condition - the box is almost pristine and it is such a fabulous design. The battery would be inserted in the base section. It looks like it has never been used. It comes with its original retail box and instructions manual, as photographed.
